PRP can be injected into many areas of the body such as the joints and ligaments. Many people have tried conservative methods of treatments by means of physical therapy, medications, other types of injections, and even surgery. Factors of whether the injury is acute (such as a fall) or chronic (an injury developing over time) is a key feature. This procedure is performed in office and is non-invasive. Qualified medical staff members draw blood into a sterile syringe, and then place the blood into a centrifuge. This machine spins the blood for about 5-6 minutes, which separates the red blood cells from the enriched plasma. Once the machine is finished spinning, the plasma can be pulled into another syringe injected into the patient by Dr. Bagwe. This plasma has an increased concentration of growth factors that stimulate the healing process with up to 10 times the normal concentration of platelets to your injury. These growth factors play an important role in signaling the body to heal itself through clotting, controlling inflammation, building, and healing the soft tissues.
Drinking a lot of fluids will help with the blood draw process. To help, in the day prior to your injection, drink your weight divided in half in ounces. For example: 250 lbs. ÷ 2 = 125 ounces. This will better the outcome of your PRP injection.
Unless told by your physician, do not take NSAIDs or blood thinners at least 5-7 days prior to your PRP appointment. This includes: Ibuprofen, Aleve, Aspirin, Arthritis medication. If there are any other medications you are taking and are unsure about, please call our office and ask.
How much does the PRP injection cost? Insurance companies DO NOT cover the PRP treatment. They will only cover the actual injection itself, not the process. This injection is cash pay only. ***This fee must be paid in full before the injection can be performed***
You do not need a driver after your PRP injection unless you deem it necessary.
This procedure can be repeated more than once depending upon the treatment plan as discussed between you and your physician.
Results can take up to 4-6 weeks to see a difference.
Physical therapy and bracing may be a benefit to help the process in healing.
