Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It is the inflammation of a thick band of tissues that run across the bottom of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes, known as the plantar fascia. Typically the pain is worst in the morning with your first steps and will decrease as you get up and moving. However, it may return again after long periods of standing or walking again after sitting for a while. Although it can take several months, most people are able to recover using conservative treatments including stretching, resting, and ice.
In an ankle fusion, the physician fastens together the damaged ankle bones with metal plates and screws. As a part of the healing process, the bones fuse into one combined bone. This is typically a successful procedure in relieving arthritis pain but can also reduce the mobility of the ankle joint. A fusion would be recommended to a younger patient with an active lifestyle.
